A Meditation to Grow Your Intuitive Abilities
77
For a description of what blocked intuition might look like when viewing it in your life, day to day, moment to moment, review the first part of this article.
If you have read the first article and are ready to move on the meditation, congratulations! You are clearly ready to bring your intuition up to the surface where you can hear it more clearly. So let's get started with this thirty-minute meditation and stretch some new muscles to get your inner guide back in the driver’s seat.
The Meditation:
Before we begin, it’s important for you to know that there’s no accomplishment and no completion when it comes to this exercise. In other words, this exercise in “getting your inner voice back” isn’t something you would exactly check off your checklist when you’re finished and then move on to the next thing. It’s more about making space in your consciousness for a new way of approaching things.
This process, after you do it once, can be used to continually work inside you, and it will naturally become easier and easier for you to translate what your intuition is telling you so you can clearly see what’s best for you.
Are you ready to find out how to recognize your voice of intuition? There are two ways to do this exercise: One is to read all the way through it and then try to do it on your own. The second way is to have someone read it for you as you try it.
So let’s begin. Sit back and relax somewhere comfortable like a chair or couch, or lie down on a mat. Close your eyes and let yourself sink into the chair or mat until you feel fully supported by it. As you relax, take five long, slow, deep breaths. As you do, become aware of all of your senses.
Take in another gentle, deep breath and temporarily release your ties to the outer world as you exhale. Let go of your current worries and issues like you’d let go of helium balloons. Watch them fly far away from you, getting smaller and smaller. Feel your muscles softening as you think about how safe and relaxed you are right now.
Now, draw your attention into your body, thinking about all of your nerves, tissues and cells. Send grateful thoughts to them for giving you so much vibrant life and so many rich experiences. Let all of your senses come alive now. You are a sensory being for good reason. Your senses help you to know what you need to know so that you can progress safely toward your best life, step by step.
Become aware of your skin, the weight of your body on the chair or floor, your heartbeat, and your breath. Imagine now putting on a pair of glasses that make everything in the world look so crisp and clear and beautiful that it nearly brings tears to your eyes. You never knew it was possible to see things in such sharp focus. The glasses also sharpen your senses and your ability to perceive subtle things happening in your body. You suddenly can feel so much more of what is happening in and around your body.
You are beginning to know that your body has been waiting for a moment like this, perhaps for a very long time. Your body’s intuitive voice is about to be heard and responded to. Your body is very happy about this. Your cells are already responding with health and anticipation of the good things that are coming. Things are already beginning to flow better. Channels of energetic communication are opening up.
From here it’s really as simple as observing and receiving the voice of your intuition that’s currently active in your body. The different sensations you get in different parts of your body communicate different messages or “frequencies.” Take a quick moment now to recall how a sinking feeling in your gut has felt much different to you than getting shivers on your arms. Nobody has ever had to tell you what a sinking feeling means. You just knew by the way it felt. In the same way, you know that when you get chills, it feels like something is true and magical. During this exercise, you might look for sensations like that inside several key areas of your body. They will help you to be able to recognize your perceptions and exercise your intuitive ability.
First, slowly turn your attention to your body’s core, which is the area of your body between your chest and hips. As you search for sensations in this abdominal area think about how nice it is that you can “check your gut” as a way of bypassing the chatter of the analytical mind. Your body’s core is always taking you straight to the real truth of your being, so you don’t ever have to worry or think hard about your decisions. As you continue to breathe deeply, you feel comfort in knowing what every feeling and sensation means. Nothing about this needs to be studied or understood. It is already complete within you.
Next, begin to explore the feelings in your legs as you continue to breathe. Continue to stay relaxed. Your legs are packed with intuition as well, often sending you signals as muscle twitches or circulation changes in response to certain events. You may not feel any sensations in this area or the other areas of our focus today and that is perfectly fine. It is nice to just be able to breathe in and out and know that this exercise today is about becoming prepared for when a feeling does come up in your body. You might imagine yourself paying attention to your body more and more in your day to day life, looking for either tightness or lightness that tells you when to pause and revaluate, and when it is safe to go ahead.
Moving your focus again now, up from your legs and above your core, we will visit your heart center. Feel your lungs as they breathe in and out slowly. Pay attention to your steady beating heart. Send grateful thoughts to this area. This section of your body will often send you messages through constriction or through a “lighthearted” feathery feeling. Other things to watch for in the heart area are rapid heartbeat, a compressed feeling, a dull ache, or an open window feeling.
Again, you never have to be told what these sensations mean. You already know everything you need to know about these sensations. All that you need to do is to pay attention to the feelings. By now you understand that your intuition will always guide you to smooth roads along your life journey. It just needs YOUR ATTENTION and YOUR TRUST. When your inner voice is activated by your attention, and you respond to it trustingly, it fulfills your higher purpose swiftly and safely.
Find your attention moving again now, steadily up to the throat area. Take a moment to breathe in the recognition of how your throat has the ability to communicate to you by getting tight when something upsets you or if there is something you need to say. You are aware that if any area of your body becomes tight in response to a certain thought, even if all other parts of your body feel good, you can choose better feeling thoughts until your body feels completely at ease again. Let that awareness comfort and empower you as you melt further into the chair or the mat that you are on. You really remember now how your body uses sensations to let you know what is good for you and what is not. Right this very moment you are building a renewed trust of your inner voice, which also speaks through your skin’s surface, the crown of your head, your jaw, your forehead, your shoulders, and many other parts of your body.
Now begin to return your attention back to the room you are in and slowly open your eyes. As you slowly begin to move your fingers and toes, arms and legs, remember that everything about intuition is wholeness. You know that you are complete and at peace as you walk according to where your inner voice is guiding you.
By doing this exercise, you may have gotten a clearer view of the truth behind the life situations you’re facing. You’ve also learned to attentively observe what your body is telling you. As you’ve spent this time looking and listening to what is going on inside you, you may have arrived at an answer you’ve been looking for or a feeling of peace about something.
Exercising your inner voice like you have done during this exercise has fed your life force, strengthening your radiance and inner peace. As you have let your truth come to the surface, that truth was able to dissolve some old burdens, lightening your load. Congratulations. This reawakening to your inner voice is allowing you to access the greatest potential that is possible for your life today.
As you carry on in the days, weeks and months ahead, remember that when you practice working with your intuition in this way, (rather than working against it), great health, harmony, abundance and love will stir inside you like never before.
